Mads Mikkelsen in The Hunt
The Hunt
False
accusations against alleged witches, pedophiles, the weak, misunderstood and
vulnerable are common in human history. A
kind of shared hysteria propped up with conspiracy and lies can destroy an
innocent person. Danish kindergarten
teacher Lucas (Mikkelsen) is accused of sexual misconduct with a female student,
his principal jumps to conclusions without proper investigation and he loses his
job, his son, his sense of justice and hope. Did the principal do the right thing in acting
on an errant remark by a six year old? Did
the parents who shun him and turn to violence respond properly? It’s a stomach churning situation, which Vinterberg
handles tastefully, that raises a lot of questions. It hits hard and with Mikkelsen’s sensitive
performance, makes us wonder who’s next.
